Veneers in Elma

How Do Veneers Work?

Veneers work by replacing the front surfaces of your teeth. They are made out of special ceramic materials that look and feel just like real enamel. Veneers are thin, hollow, and fit over your natural teeth to cover them up. With a set of veneers from Springbrook Family Dentistry, you can correct almost any cosmetic problem with your smile. Contact us to schedule a consultation in Elma now.

Veneers are not considered to be reversible, since a thin layer of enamel must be removed from each tooth that’s getting a veneer.

How Does The Veneer Process Work?

Cosmetic consultation

To begin the process, you’ll come into Springbrook Family Dentistry for a cosmetic consultation with Dr. Finney. She will examine your mouth, discuss your smile goals with you, and help you decide on the cosmetic treatments that are right for your unique needs.

Trimming and fitting

Once you’re approved for veneers, you’ll come in for a follow-up at our office. Dr. Finney will clean and numb your mouth. Then, she will use a dental drill to remove some enamel from each tooth that’s getting a veneer. This ensures that no bulk is added to your teeth by your veneers. Then, she will take impressions and images of your newly-trimmed teeth.

Building your veneers

Dr. Finney will attach a set of temporary veneers to your teeth, then send your information to a dental lab. This is where your permanent veneers will be built out of durable, tooth-like porcelain materials. It usually takes 2-3 weeks to build your veneers.

Final placement

Once your veneers arrive at Springbrook Family Dentistry, you’ll come in for a final appointment. Dr. Finney will remove your temporaries, clean your teeth, then check the fit of your permanent veneers. If everything looks good, she’ll attach your veneers with dental cement. She’ll polish your teeth one more time, then send you home to enjoy your new grin.

How Long Do Veneers Last?

Veneers will usually last 10-15 years, but can easily last 20 years or longer with proper care. To care for your veneers, make sure you brush twice a day and floss once a day and eat a tooth-healthy diet. You should also come to Springbrook Family Dentistry every six months for a checkup and teeth cleaning from Dr. Finney and our team.

Do porcelain veneers ruin your natural teeth?

Porcelain veneers often require some preparation of the natural tooth, but with proper planning we can usually keep the amount of preparation to a minimum. At Springbrook Family Dentistry, we take a minimally invasive approach— your veneers are carefully planned prior to your appointment, which allows us to keep tooth reduction to a minimum. Preserving as much enamel as possible is one of our top priorities and will help your veneers fit naturally and seamlessly. We want the underlying tooth to remain strong and protected. In many cases, veneers can actually strengthen and protect teeth that are worn, chipped, or weakened. Teeth that have this type of damage may need little preparation beyond smoothing and polishing prior to fabricating your veneers. Careful planning and precise execution are key to long-term success.

How long do porcelain veneers last?

With proper homecare and good oral hygiene, porcelain veneers typically last 10–15 years or longer. Many of our patients enjoy their veneers well beyond that timeframe.

Longevity depends on:

  • Consistent oral hygiene
  • Bite habits (such as clenching or grinding)
  • Regular dental visits

We design every case with both longevity and aesthetics in mind, and we often recommend a custom nightguard when needed to protect your new smile.

Will veneers look natural or fake?

Our goal is simple: your smile should look like the best version of you—not like dental work. Our goal is beautiful but natural looking smiles!

We carefully customize:

  • Tooth shape and proportions
  • Color, brightness, and translucency
  • Overall smile design to match your facial features

Even subtle improvements—sometimes just one or two teeth—can dramatically enhance your smile while still looking completely natural. We work with high-quality dental labs to ensure exceptional results and know that sometimes less is more!

Am I a good candidate for porcelain veneers?

Porcelain veneers are ideal for patients looking to improve:

  • Stained or discolored teeth that don’t respond to whitening
  • Chipped, worn, or uneven teeth
  • Small gaps or minor alignment issues
  • Irregular tooth shape or size

However, we always begin with a comprehensive evaluation to ensure veneers are the right choice. We may recommend other treatments such as Invisalign, whitening or composite bonding instead of or in addition to veneers to get a more ideal and conservative outcome. If there are concerns like gum disease, bite issues, or grinding, we address those first.

Our treatment philosophy is to recommend what’s best for your long-term oral health—not just cosmetic improvement.
