Elma, NY Root Canals
A root canal is a common procedure to save an infected tooth. The team at Springbrook Family Dentistry understands that many people have negative feelings about root canals. However, advances in dental techniques and materials make today’s root canal treatment as simple and routine as having a tooth filled.
We know that many people feel anxious about dental visits, especially for procedures like root canals. You can be assured that our team has decades of experience in keeping our patients calm and relaxed during treatment. They know just what to do to ensure you have the most stress-free experience possible.
Root Canals Save Teeth
Root canals address a serious problem involving the pulp of a tooth that has become infected. The pulp houses nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue that may become infected and inflamed due to severe decay, chips or cracks in the tooth, or other damage.
A root canal is necessary to treat the inside of the tooth when the pulp becomes infected. When we perform a root canal, we remove the infected pulp, then clean and seal the tooth. For more complex root canal cases, we will refer you to our in-house endodontist who comes to our office one day a week. After your procedure, we may suggest restoring the tooth with a crown or filling for protection and normal tooth function.
We urge you not to put off dental treatment because you’re worried about the procedure. Postponing treatment will lead to continued pain, and the tooth will eventually need to be extracted.
Your Comfort Is Our Priority
Millions of people are apprehensive about dental visits, and we respect those feelings. Dr. Finney will always make sure your mouth is numb before she begins the procedure so there’s no risk of any discomfort. However, dental anxiety is worse for some people than others. If your anxiety is a serious problem for you, we offer comfortable nitrous oxide sedation.
Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is a very mild sedative that will help you feel calm and drowsy but will not put you to sleep. After your procedure, you’ll be able to resume your daily activities since nitrous has no side effects.
