Why should I floss? Isn’t brushing enough?

When it comes to oral hygiene, brushing and flossing go hand in hand. If you’re only brushing and not flossing, you’re only getting half the job done. Flossing is essential for removing sticky bacteria and plaque from between teeth where your toothbrush can’t reach. Why Floss? | Elma NY Dentist

It may help to remember that a tooth has five surfaces, and if you aren’t flossing regularly, you’re leaving at least two of those surfaces unclean. Flossing is the only way to get into those tight, hard-to-reach spaces to remove bacteria. Without flossing, periodontal disease and cavities can develop in these areas and take their toll on your oral health.

How To Floss

If you are taking the extra step and remembering to floss, it’s important to get the most out of your efforts as possible. When you come in for your regular professional dental cleaning, our hygienist will be happy to show you the proper way to floss. If you have orthodontics or extensive dental work, we can recommend a special type of floss that will allow you to get around these hard-to-reach areas.

At Springbrook Family Dentistry, we’ll be more than happy to answer all your questions about oral hygiene. Please give us a call to arrange your next appointment for a dental cleaning.

The past few months have been challenging for everyone; we are looking forward to a return to a new type of normalcy. We have officially been given the green light to re-open, and plan to resume seeing patients on June 11th. While I have cherished the extra time with my husband and 9 month old, I have missed my patients and doing what I love each day.

Over the past three months, I have spent long hours researching how to best prepare our office for a safe reopening. My number one priority is ensuring the health and safety of our patients and staff. I’d like to share some of our strategies for keeping our office clean and safe for all.
