How can we help you?
Patient education is a very important part of the services offered at Springbrook Family Dentistry. Our team will always go out of their way to explain the need for any procedure and how it will benefit your oral health. But you still may have questions, and we encourage you to share with us anything that is a concern to you. We believe that the only silly question is the one that goes unasked!
We've shared a few questions that we hear most frequently from our patients, but you may not see the exact information you're looking for here. If that's the case, please don't hesitate to contact our office. A knowledgeable member of our team will be happy to find the answer you need.
Depending upon your smile and the reasons for your dissatisfaction with your teeth, there are a number of options available to improve your smile. Sometimes just one of these treatment options alone is enough to get you a beautiful looking smile. In other situations the treatment options may need to be combined for an optimal result.
Whitening can be a great option if your main concern with your teeth is the color. Whitening is a fairly simple treatment that can be done primarily from the comfort of your own home. At Springbrook Family Dentistry we will take a mold of your teeth, which will be used to make whitening trays fit precisely to your mouth. You will also be given prescription strength bleach which you will use in your trays over a couple week span for about 1 hour a day. Whitening alone often produces some excellent results!
If you are unhappy with your smile because of crowded and misaligned teeth or large gaps between your teeth, braces or invisalign may be just what you need. Invisalign is a newer technology that uses clear, plastic aligners to move the teeth into a better position. By doing so we can straigten your teeth into the smile you always wanted without the unsightly appearance of metal braces.
For patients that do not like the shape of their teeth or for patients that have discoloration in their teeth that cannot be corrected with whitening, veneers are an excellent way to obtain a beautiful smile. Porcelain veneers are fairly conservative in nature and only require the removal of a small amount of tooth structure. Your veneers will be made precisely to our specifications by a highly skilled lab technician and permanently cemented on to your teeth. With good homecare, porcelain veneers can last many years with a beautiful result. If your teeth need repositioning, sometimes it will be recommended to complete orthodontic work prior to receiving veneers in order to get the best result possible.
If you have any concerns about the appearance of your teeth we would be happy to provide you with a consult and discuss with you the best options for improving your smile!
Dental bonding and porcelain veneers are both ways to improve the esthetics of your teeth. There are a few main differences between the two.
Dental bonding is done directly in the mouth with a material called composite. Often we do not need to remove any tooth structure in order to add bonding, although it does depend on certain factors.
Porcelain veneers are made by a lab outside of the mouth and then cemented into place. Typically some light sanding down of the teeth is required to get a good result. Porcelain veneers are usually more aesthetic and lifelike than bonding and because of this are more expensive. Lastly, porcelain veneers typically have a longer lifetime than dental bonding which is more likely to stain in a shorter period of time.
The lifetime of Dental Bonding vs Veneers
Both may need to be replaced down the line but porcelain veneers usually need to be replaced every 10-15 years while bonding may need to be redone every 3-5 years.
To schedule your consultation to find out which one is right for you, please call our office located in Elma, NY.
When you choose porcelain veneers to enhance your teeth, you can potentially be enjoying your new smile in a matter of weeks. Veneers are micro-thin shells of porcelain designed to fit over your teeth and cover imperfections. Dr. Finney works closely with you to plan your new smile during a consultation, and then the fun begins!
During your next visit, Dr. Finney will prepare your teeth for your porcelain veneers by removing a minimal amount of enamel from your teeth, so your veneers have a seamless fit our your tooth. She will also create temporary veneers that you will wear until your final restorations are completed. For the next week or so, your veneers will be hand-crafted at a local dental laboratory. This gives you time to get used to new look and feel of your teeth with veneers while wearing your temporary restorations.
Once your final veneers are completed, you will return to Springbrook Family Dentistry to have them placed. Dr. Finney will make any necessary adjustments at this time to ensure that you are entirely satisfied and excited with your results.
